The TrueCar national market average of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is $22,650 or about $326 per month after 20 percent down payment. That’s a generous savings of 15.1 percent off — or up to 4,020 less than — the $26,670 MSRP of Chevrolet’s 2WD work truck in 1LT trim when configured with a regular cab and standard-size box. This long-wheelbase version of the subcompact Fiat Pop has a little more room inside and is powered by a 135-horsepower 1.4-liter turbocharged engine boasting fuel economy of 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway and 28.8 combined. After putting 20 percent down, monthly payments on the sporty little Fiat can be as low as $249, among the most affordable of the cars on this list.

The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze is the most affordable car this month, thanks to a TrueCar national market average of $15,567. That’s a potential savings of 15.1 percent — or up to $2,778 — less than the already inexpensive $18,345 MSRP of Chevrolet’s popular small sedan in LS trim with manual transmission. Put 20 percent down, and monthly payments are a super-wallet-friendly $224 per month for 60 months at a 3 percent annual percentage rate. Fuel economy is rated at 25 city, 36 highway, and 30.1 combined.

The 2014 Honda Accord boasts an excellent reputation for safety, resale, and reliability, as well as a potential discount of 8.1 percent. The Accord midsize sedan starts with an MSRP of $29,060, but its average market price is $2,359 lower at $26,701 in EX-L trim with CVT; that boils down to a monthly payment of about $384 after a 20 percent down payment. Fuel economy for Honda’s five-seat sedan is the best of any vehicle on this list, coming in at 27 city, 36 highway, and 31.1 combined.

The 2014 Ford Edge carries an average price paid of $26,457; that’s 14.5 percent — or as much as $4,488 less than the $30,495 MSRP of Ford’s AWD midsize sport/utility vehicle in SE trim. Offer a 20 percent down payment, and your monthly payments could be about $380 for 60 months. Recently redesigned, the 2014 Ford Edge provides seating for five plus storage in the wayback that holds 34.3 cubic feet of cargo, making it just right for small groups and all their stuff.

The 2014 Jeep Compass small SUV offers a great potential discount of up to 13.5 percent. That translates into a terrific savings of as much as $2,908, bringing the MSRP of Jeep’s 4×2 Compass Altitude Edition from $21,585 down to a more-wallet-friendly market average price of $18,677. Add in fuel economy of 22 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 24.5 mpg combined, plus an estimated monthly payment of $268, and the Compass equals one super-affordable crossover.

The 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan offers a potential discount of up to 5.5 percent. That translates into a potential savings of as much as $1,552, bringing the MSRP of Volkswagen’s two-wheel-drive five-passenger SUV in SE trim from $28,205 down to a wallet-friendly market average price of $26,653. Add its excellent fuel economy of 21 city, 26 highway, and 23.5 combined with an estimated monthly payment of $383, and the Tiguan can slip easily into your budget.

 

Longing for more luxury? Then perhaps the Mercedes-Benz C-Class or Audi A4 are what you’re looking for.

The 2014 Audi A4 sedan is a sporty luxury car that also offers great highway fuel economy of 32 miles per gallon. Subtract its 12.0 percent discount — or $4,567 potential savings — from its $38,195 MSRP (in Premum Plus trim with 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and front-wheel drive), and you could drive away in Audi’s luxury sedan for a national market average of $33,628. Put down 20 percent, and the monthly payment will be about $483.

The spirited 2014 Mercedes-Benz C250 coupe sports a potential 10.5 percent discount equaling a possible $4,083 savings — bringing the national market average price of this Mercedes-Benz sportster down from an MSRP of $39,125 down to $35,032 — or about $504 per month after a 20 percent down payment.
